Standard Model matter families
Quarks and leptons form three generations.
Key knowledge
The Standard Model matter families comprise six quarks—up, down, charm, strange, top, bottom—and three charged leptons paired with electron-, muon- and tau-flavor neutrinos. Antiparticles accompany the matter states.
Conditions and scope
- Flavor labels are used; neutrino mixing is outside this compact classification.
- This is particle classification, with no fitted masses, decay times or claim that it contains every observed cosmic component.
