FIPS 203 ML-KEM uses module-LWE-based public-key structure and a key-encapsulation transformation targeting IND-CCA2 security.
Key knowledge
FIPS 203 ML-KEM uses module-LWE-based public-key structure and a key-encapsulation transformation targeting IND-CCA2 security. ML-KEM-512/768/1024 have categories 1/3/5, with polynomial degree 256 and modulus 3329; the names are not simple bit-strength labels. Encapsulation and decapsulation can disagree with a small parameter-dependent failure probability. The internal K-PKE component is not approved for standalone encryption, and implicit rejection/input checks are part of the construction.
Conditions and scope
- Security depends on computational assumptions, hash-model analysis, valid parameter/input handling and randomness generation.
- The final standard and current errata are checked; a hybrid combination needs its own composition analysis.

Evidence and review
Author checked this English statement, displayed equation where present and stated hypotheses against these source locations: §§3.2–3.3 IND-CCA2/failure model and implementation constraints; §§7–8 parameters, Tables 1–3; Final 13 August 2024; 17 November 2025 planning note identifies future correction. The check is bounded to the recorded claims; no complete proof reconstruction, software proof replay or universal literature completeness is claimed.
