Decode-forward asks a relay to recover a message or layer before forwarding cooperative codewords; a weak source-to-relay link can bottleneck it.
Key knowledge
Decode-forward asks a relay to recover a message or layer before forwarding cooperative codewords; a weak source-to-relay link can bottleneck it. Compress-forward forwards a description of the relay observation that the destination decodes using its own correlated observation. Their achievable rates depend on different joint laws and decoding constraints. Neither strategy uniformly dominates or supplies a converse for every network.
Conditions and scope
- Compare strategies on the same channel law, input cost, causality and error convention.
- A practically finite block, quantizer and decoder require a separate cost/error analysis.
