For smooth complex algebraic varieties, analytic topology, algebraic coordinate structure and smooth de Rham theory offer complementary invariants.
Key knowledge
For smooth complex algebraic varieties, analytic topology, algebraic coordinate structure and smooth de Rham theory offer complementary invariants. Algebraic isomorphism implies homeomorphism of complex points, but homeomorphic spaces need not be algebraically isomorphic. Singular integer homology can retain torsion invisible to real de Rham cohomology; for a smooth manifold de Rham cohomology corresponds to singular cohomology with real coefficients.
Conditions and scope
- Use complex varieties for the analytic-topology comparison and smooth manifolds for de Rham comparison.
- These frameworks answer different structural questions; one invariant is not a universal classification theorem.

Evidence and review
Author checked this English statement, displayed equation where present and stated hypotheses against these source locations: Chapters 2 and 4: Zariski topology, strong Nullstellensatz Theorem 2.16, coordinate rings and nonsingular points; §1.1 paths/fundamental group and §2.1 chains, cellular homology pp. 137–141 including surface computations; §§1.2, 2.1–2.2, 3.1, 11.1–11.2, 12.1–12.2, 13.1, 15.1–15.3, 17.1–17.3; each record narrows its applicable claim. The check is bounded to the recorded claims; no complete proof reconstruction, software proof replay or universal literature completeness is claimed.
