Multivariate Monte Carlo and region validation
Research context
research method · conditional · As of 2026-10-10
Monte Carlo draws from the joint input model and evaluates all outputs from each common draw.
Key knowledge
Monte Carlo draws from the joint input model and evaluates all outputs from each common draw. Joint quantiles/regions must be checked for simulation error and sufficient probability content; marginal quantiles alone are insufficient. Compare repeated batches, numerical tolerances, model discontinuities and reference cases before adopting an uncertainty region.
Conditions and scope
- Preserve correlations/copulas, support constraints and solver branches; a stable numerical result does not validate the assigned input distribution.
- Use a separate sample or analytic benchmark to assess probability content where appropriate. Binomial simulation error for a fixed region is about √[p(1−p)/M], distinct from measurement uncertainty and region-selection bias.
