Squeezing, loss and sensor noise trade-offs

Squeezing lowers noise in one optical quadrature while increasing conjugate noise.
Key knowledge
Squeezing lowers noise in one optical quadrature while increasing conjugate noise. Its benefit depends on readout angle, losses and technical noise. In force/interferometric sensing, phase shot noise and amplitude radiation-pressure noise can require frequency-dependent rotation; lowering one term can increase another. Noise-aware optimization is specific to the sensing task.
Conditions and scope
- Calibrated optical state, phase control, loss channel and detector response; quote squeezing relative to a defined reference and bandwidth.
- Total uncertainty includes laser/control, mechanical, thermal and calibration effects. Better quantum-noise spectra are not an automatic universal improvement per photon.
