A precision Standard Model fit compares predicted electroweak observables with correlated measurements, jointly propagating input-parameter, systematic and missing-order uncertainties.
Key knowledge
A precision Standard Model fit compares predicted electroweak observables with correlated measurements, jointly propagating input-parameter, systematic and missing-order uncertainties. The inspected PDG review uses a declared renormalization convention and assumptions such as lepton universality. A residual or an excluded input tests that specific model/fit construction; it is not automatically evidence for a unique new particle.
Conditions and scope
- Specify observable selection, covariance, nuisance treatment, confidence construction, input masses and renormalization scheme; inspected rolling PDG PDF dated April 2026.
- Pole and running parameters are not interchangeable. Experimental disagreement, theory truncation and fitted-input correlation have distinct contributions; edition/date is part of a numerical fit result.

Evidence and review
Inspected §§10.2–10.5 and tables 10.5–10.7: schemes, nuisance inputs, correlated precision fits; inspected PDF carries 15 April 2026 footer; source check dated 2026-10-10. Scope is limited to the cited statements, equations and assumptions, not the whole publication.
