Rated operating conditions
Instrument properties are specified within a domain of use.
Key knowledge
Rated operating conditions must be fulfilled during measurement for an instrument or system to perform as designed. They generally specify intervals for the measured quantity and relevant influence quantities. Meeting an indication range alone does not establish that temperature, power, humidity or other operating conditions are within their specified domains.
Conditions and scope
- Use the actual instrument’s documented conditions and the applicable measurement procedure.
- A specification does not by itself validate extrapolation beyond a calibrated or characterized domain, nor prove the result’s complete uncertainty.

Evidence and review
Read VIM4.9 definition and note on intervals for measured/influence quantities. The calibration-domain limitation reuses the existing calibration-validation scope; example influences are illustrative rather than universal requirements.
