Uniform convergence of functions
One cutoff controls the error at every domain point.
Key knowledge
Functions fₙ:A→R converge uniformly to f if, for every ε>0, one N gives |fₙ(x)−f(x)|<ε for all x∈A and n>N. A uniform limit of continuous functions is continuous.
Conditions and scope
- Here A is a subset of R with its usual relative topology.
- Pointwise convergence allows N to depend on x and does not ensure continuity of the limit.
