A DDPM adds Gaussian noise in a forward Markov chain and learns a parameterized reverse process to generate samples.
Key knowledge
A DDPM adds Gaussian noise in a forward Markov chain and learns a parameterized reverse process to generate samples. Ho, Jain and Abbeel's simplified objective predicts injected noise at sampled time steps; its weighting differs from the exact variational objective. Good samples under a dataset metric are evidence for that task, not proof of factual truth, unbiased population representation, private training or arbitrary conditional reliability.
Conditions and scope
- State the noise schedule, data normalization, reverse parameterization, sampling procedure and evaluation dataset.
- Likelihood bounds, sample metrics and downstream utility measure different properties; speed depends on the sampling steps.

Evidence and review
Author checked this English statement, displayed equation where present and stated hypotheses against these source locations: §§2–3 forward Gaussian chain, learned reverse process and simplified denoising objective; §4 experiments. The check is bounded to the recorded claims; no complete proof reconstruction, software proof replay or universal literature completeness is claimed.
