For order alpha>1, RDP bounds the Rényi divergence between mechanism outputs on every adjacent dataset pair by epsilon-alpha.
Key knowledge
For order alpha>1, RDP bounds the Rényi divergence between mechanism outputs on every adjacent dataset pair by epsilon-alpha. At a fixed order, adaptive composition adds these bounds. An (alpha,epsilon-alpha)-RDP mechanism is also (epsilon-alpha+log(1/delta)/(alpha−1),delta)-DP for 0<delta<1. Optimizing over orders can tighten accounting, but sampling amplification and numerical accountant assumptions need their own validated formula.
Values and equations
epsilon_DP=epsilon_alpha+ln(1/delta)/(alpha−1)
- alpha
- Rényi order greater than one
- epsilon_alpha
- RDP bound at that order
- delta
- Chosen failure parameter between zero and one
Conditions and scope
- Use natural logarithms for the RDP bound and epsilon conversion, and the declared adjacency.
- The formula is a sufficient conversion, not necessarily the optimal bound for every mechanism.
