For a causal linear time-invariant sensor with specified initial state, output is the convolution of input with impulse response plus noise.
Key knowledge
For a causal linear time-invariant sensor with specified initial state, output is the convolution of input with impulse response plus noise. Dynamic calibration estimates transfer-function parameters and their covariance over a stated bandwidth. At initialization t=0, the integral covers subsequent input and y_IC carries the specified initial-state response; input history must not also be counted in both terms.
Values and equations
y(t)=∫₀ᵗh(t−τ)x(τ)dτ+y_IC(t)+n(t), t≥0
- x,y
- Input/output signals with separately declared units
- h
- Impulse response; output divided by input and time
- y_IC,n
- Initial-state response and noise; output units
- t,τ
- Times s
Conditions and scope
- Declared input/output units, calibration excitation, timing/sampling and linear operating range; transfer function must be causal/stable in its intended use.
- An inverse may be unstable or noncausal; finite bandwidth, zeros and unexcited modes limit identifiability. Static gain alone is insufficient.
